  • Any other spam stopping tips?

I've implemented Racefans' code changes to stop people adding their URL on registration and that did help at the time.

Recently I've been getting spammed worse than ever. I get regular sprees where the same user posts around 7 similar or identical messages spread throughout the forum. It's the usual rubbish with links to adult sites etc.. and obviously this is annoying to have to erase so many spam posts.

Any tips on stopping these idiots? I've blocked some email domains, but they seem to have an infinite supply of new ones.

that one is the one Racefan posted Bee.

      I've implemented that.

What it does is stop bots adding their website when they register, which does reduce the amount of bot registrations considerably.

It does seem complicated, but it's just a matter of editing your php script in something like notepad, and then uploading again!

It helps, but I'm still getting the spammers

Not sure if it’s the right thing. But would a bit of script that makes a new user have to fill out one of those boxes with the randomly generated numbers & letters that crawlers cant get past, help with this in the joining up area. Not sure how easy they are to put in place.

Whoops! I have just red Aliens post & it seem’s to be a similar type of thing.

Re: Any other spam stopping tips?

I've had the 'Humanizer mod' in place from the start. Assuming this is the box with partially disguised letters / numbers to enter

(my registration page looks like this http://myworldsouthamerica.com/forum...er&agreed=true)

I have also removed the 'add your website' box, which has helped, but I'm still getting hit quite regularly.

I have noticed on another forum, they have it so that you have to post at least 5 times before you can post a url. I think this would help, but can't figure out how to do it. Anyone know?
