  • Centering Your Pages

I cant tell you how many times I've been asked how to do this, so thought I'd do a step by step guide...hope it helps.

    1. Open a new blank page in BV or a space on the page your working on.

    2. Right Click on the page.

    3. Go to "Page Properties"

    4. Click in the box that says "Center in Browser"

    Thats it, your done.

You can also set your page widths (800), page background colours, links, font size and colour scrollbars etc.

Once you've finished your page, use your preview to view (Go to file scroll down to "preview in browser" or click the icon in your top tool bar to the left of the publish icon)..This will show any corrections that you need to make.

Get into the habit of always checking that your page widths are correct and the "Center in Browser" box is ticked before publishing.

      Thanks Lincs!

I have found that the LAST thing one should check before publishing is the widths - dunno why, but they can suddenly change. Then when you check out your site on the net, it's off kilter!

      cheers

        Hi Will,
They change easily if for some reason you are moving a text box or an image to get it out of your way while fixing something else. I am forever having to remember to check my width once I am done moving things around.

          Re: Centering Your Pages

Yes your right will, thats why its great to set your page guide lines then its easy to see what has gone outside the width that you are working to and so, ..easier to put right :o)

Like Dori says...when your working on a page, moving text, images, shapes etc you often go over your width even if its slightly, then your page gets wider and if you dont have guide lines its harder to find what it is thats gone over...I cant work without them.

Thanks Dori... anything to make life easier thats me lol

            Re: Centering Your Pages

Something else important - is that you have to make the pages starting at the far left.

Some think to center they need to center on the BV page - WRONG - you want to use the rulers and make the page from 0-whatever you choose - to 800 if you want to be safe with all browser windows - 0- under 1024 to be safe in 80% or so of them.

            Then follow the above advice!

Thanks for this Lincslady ! Helped me out with my page.

It would definitely be easier if we could lock the page width scrollers so that we don't have to always check it they moved.

I've taken everyone's coaching regarding centering my pages, but when I preview a page it isn't centered on my screen. What am I leaving out?

How wide (in pixels) is your page design? That could be the trouble. If you think it's right (800 - 1000 approx), then right click on your page background and ensure that the page width is set correctly in the page properties. This changes automatically whenever you move something over the 'edge' of your page. You should get into the habit of checking this and resetting it, if necessary, every time you come to save and/or publish a page.

Thanks Amanda! I have had my sizes correct and been checking them.
When I tried it again today, it all started working absolutely fine! I have no idea why.

Re: How many pages am I allowed on my site

Hi, I am in the process of developing a business directory and needed to know how many pages I can create because of memory space, ie, I will need to create a new page for every business needing to advertise. Some help on this subject would be very much appreciated. Thanks (thebungalow)
