  • New Hosting & Domain > Homepage holds an Index ?

    Hi there folks...

Have just officially joined VH! Its been 2 days and I now have a URL that works but on the homepage...an Index presents with a list of default directories - parent directory and cgi bin. Have tried to publish my homepage which then displays all files uploaded in this generic manner.

Is it that I have a temporary URL in place till the real deal is configured so hence cannot look at my homepage or published files correctly or is there something I need to do to replace this ?

Site Link http://www.outbackcubby.com/ for you to view.

    Much Thanks, Manda

    Hi Manda

Did you save your home page as "index" all in lowercase letters. This may be the problem.

There lies the answer folks...what a wally I am!
        Thanks for that All!
Had saved as homepage and published as such rather than Index.
Though do know this rule! Daaa

** I now recall to thinking about a Flash Intro Page...I did not know whether I should devote & save an entire page for the html/flash element to save and publish as 'Index' so it is seen first (prior to my homepage), or whether I shld just embed this on my homepage and save/publish complete as Index to work.

Would you possibly know how I go about this ??

        Here's a curve ball!

        Thankyou for your help Guys.

Re: New Hosting & Domain > Homepage holds an Index ?

Hi, not quite sure what you mean? Is the flash intro the size of a page or do you mean placing it in an iframe on your index page, with other bits on the page.
If you are having a flash into, I would have this as the index & kept as short as pos with a skip flash button, which goes to your home page.
          Regards Chris.

Re: New Hosting & Domain > Homepage holds an Index ?

Hi Chris...yes am wanting a full page Flash intro which then leads into my Site (the homepage) either automatically or via a click on screen.
Have found the Site flashberry.com which is alright to do a basic intro.
So I was thinking I would save and publish a full page with the appropriate flash element or html. As 'Index'.

Good point to mention, I should have an Intro that offers a 'Skip Flash' option for visitors or keep it as short as poss as you mentioned.

Much Thanks for your reply. I will give that a go and let you know how I go within the next day. A Link if successful too.

            Ciao for now
