  • cPanel Autoresponders

I'm looking at the autoresponder set up page and I'm just wondering what does the "Character Set" section do?

Also, is there a code I can use to capture the first name of a person that has sent an email to one of my autoresponders?

Example: If John Doe goes to my website and signs up for my free report, how can I set up my autoresponder to deliver my report to him with his name in the subject line. "Ex. John, here's your free report". Also, how will
I go about getting the name John at the beginning of the email. "Ex. Dear John:"

Does the autoresponders automatically come with an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the emails? If not, how do I create one? Please advise.

I also would like to thank everybody on here that has help me thus far. I really appreciate it. May God bless you all.

    Re: cPanel Autoresponders

I have the same question. .. .I checked the tutorial but it did not cover any of those important issues related to autoresponders. My question is, in addition to yours, what about sending a periodic email to those that have given permission to receive it. ..does vodahost support a scheduled autoresponder with varied messages? Also, what about html? can we include images and links in the autoresponder message.

As I am now investgating the science of ecommerce, increasing traffic and converting traffic, it seems every guru out there is stressing the importance of listbuilding and an effective autoresponder program. Sorry I have no answers for you, only more questions!

      Re: cPanel Autoresponders

Character set is used for other languages. If you want to have japanese characters in your email it has to be changed to the appropriate char set.

You can't have a personalized message (like.. hi john) because the auto responder isn't sent their name, only an email address.

There is no need for a unsubscribe link because the auto responder only sends one email. You may be confusing an auto-responder to an email list. An auto responder activates when an email is sent to an address that it is setup on. For instance say you have a support email address. (say support@yoursite.com). When someone sends an email to support@yoursite.com, you want to have an auto responder setup to email them back right away to say "Thank you, we will handle your question asap", to verify that you received their request for support.

To activate html in your auto responder just check the "HTML message" button, and type in the html code with the message.

There is no "scheduled autoresponder", again they are only triggered when it receives an email from a specific address.

What I beleive you two are needing is some script setup for sending out newletters. A system where people sign up, and whenever you want to send out a newletter you will have a list available to send out the newletter to. And in mpritchett's case, a link at the bottom of the email for them to unsubscribe to the newletter. (Im just using the newletter as an example).

I beleive there is a system some people on the forum use, I don't know of it offhand, maybe one of them will post with a link to it.

You will probably want to find a service another website offers that will send the emails because vodahost limits the emails that can be sent out to 200 per hour (I think it is 200). Anyway, if you want a script that will work on your own website that will do this try checking hotscripts.com

      Register/Login Script
Do you use a Password Protected Directory? Need a way to allow users to make their own account, try my .htaccess Login Script

        Re: cPanel Autoresponders

Unfortunately, the autoresponder in BV is only a simple text-based return email.
If you want to have features such as subscriber's name/birthdate/address, and scheduled emails at specified intervals, I think you would need this :

        Aweber

So far, this is the best and most reliable in the market (i've tested several already).
