Hyperlink

When I hyperlink images and select _blank, they open up at a new window.

But when I hyperlink text and select _blank, they do not open up at a new window but override my page. Pls help.

My website is http://www.mytoothcaretips.com.

Another question: My page appears in the centre of the browser, how can I change the colour on the right and left of the page to make the centre page stands out?

blank will always open a new window (which isn't recommended for pages within your own site).

Make the background color a different color. If you need to, use a shape for the center of the page to make it different.
