need a little help, i'm new to this

i just finished my website www.suncoastexpressinc.com and did not realize that there was so much involved in getting noticed with search engines. so i have been going through some tutorials and researching here on the forums, how to make my site more noticeable, as my site will rely heavily on search engines. i did an analysis on www.submitexpress.com and it said something about robot meta tags. what are these and are they critical in getting more exposure for my site. also i was reading a thread on here and someone i think "Beth" had commented to a poster that posting there website url in the post would help with search engines. if this is true, why not make a sub-forum where people can post their site url to help the little guys out like me. would posting my site url in other forums that i am a member of (if they allow of course) help me?

any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
