  • Page displayed in preview is unlike page in website builder

I've enjoyed building several pages during the last week. All has gone well--my head getting bigger with each page completed 'cause 'I' was so good! Oh well. I've lost whatever I had that was working correctly, so maybe you can get me back on track.

I start with the page properties and set margins, background, etc. Next I set up the page as I want it to appear. I lock everything. Save and name the page. Then comes preview. What i see in preview is not what the page in the site builder looks like. Instead of blocks of text, the words appear in a straight line that goes completely out of sight to the right. Instead of objects being where they were locked down, they have shifted far to right and may be farther up page or down page, or even on top of each other. I have not tried to publish that because the preview looks so bad. If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear it.

http://www.homespunways2.com is the domain where several pages are up and look the way they were built and previewed.

I ran virus scans, ccleaner, register cleaner, and did a system restore backward 3 days when all was well.

    Thanks for your attention.

What browser are you using? The website will show a little differently between IE and Firefox, for example. So you need to play with your elements a bit to get it to look good in both.

Thanks for the reply, Beth. Yes, I've viewed the page before publishing in several different browsers and the result is the same--pieces and parts of the page are not where they were locked down to be and the blocks of text displays as one long line of words going continuously to the right as if there were no line breaks.
I went ahead and published that page so you can see and maybe get an idea of what I'm saying.

The only thing I've not done is to read the html for the page because I wouldn't really understand that anyway.

What do you think of deleting the page builder altogether and reinstalling that? Wouldn't loose any files, would I?

      The page is http://www.homespunways2.com/whois.html

      Thanks again for you input.

Re: Page displayed in preview is unlike page in website builder

        Dorothy,

This maybe an outside shot but I had a similar problem with page width despite setting my page properties and saving them. What I had done during page construction was to inadvertently leave an unused text box far to the right instead of deleting it. As such it still registers as content on your page but is not visible. In that case the solution was to 'select all' and see if anything shows up that you thought was not there.

        Best of luck,

        Sally.

Thank you Sally -- and Beth.
I just built another page. It previewed and published exactly as built. So, yes, there has to be a unique problem on that particular page. I'll look at it again and if no quick fix is obvious, I think to trash it and start over with a preview after each object addition is what to do.

Thinking this through with you guys is so very helpful.
          Thanks again.

I thought it may be of interest to you to know what the culprit was on the page 'who is'. It was the google search bar code -- I don't know what about it was goofing stuff up. I just know that without it the page does fine and with it, the page went all goofie. The search bar on previous pages didn't seem to bother anything but this page went bonkers.

Thanks again for letting me think out loud with you.

Chances are there was a missing component to the html on the google tool bar. Unfortunately, html is so very touchy LOL - a single missing < or > will do that.

              Glad you found it :)
