  • Sharing experiences with forms

Alright! I ‘ve done it :) after 14 consecutive hours with no sleep and 2 liters of black coffee. This is my first time doing the forms stuff and I am not a tech guy. I admire Navaldesign for his patience and commitment to help others, Pablo for his knowledge and lots of folks in the forum who make the Blue Voda community such a great team!
I know how frustrating it is when things went wrong when you thought you’ve done everything correct, sometimes only because of a minor mistake.

Any rate, I would like to share with everybody my experiences regarding forms.

    -First I watched the tutorials.

    http://www.vodahost.com/DemoDemo/bvt/custom_bluevoda_basicform.htm
    and http://www.vodahost.com/DemoDemo/bvt/custom_bluevoda_formelements.htm

Twice. So far so good. No rocket science here.
But the second (written) part of the tutorials is confusing:

Change the form properties (in BlueVoda) to:
Action: contact.php (replace the "contact" with whatever the page name is)
    Method: POST
EncodingType: (remove the text/plain, so the field becomes empty)

-Why and what’s for? It doesn’t say that you have to publish this page with a .php extension!

-And then what’s the notepad thingy for? And the FTP uploading too.
Later on, I realized that you either make another BV page for the confirmation (which is the best way because you can add as many other features, pictures or texts as you want) or you use the notepad and FTP uploading. NOT BOTH at the same time.

Then Pablo came to my rescue with his wonderful way! Thank Pablo:)
See thread : another forms questions in forum: Forms

Using Pablo way, I am able to get to the confirmation page when testing my form! Cheers! It was past midnight but I couldn’t help myself to wake up my wife and show her the result.
But after a long break and a couple of coffee cups, no email arrived into my mail after several testings.
Reading again Navaldesign posts, I realized that I have to use BlueVoda e-mail system.
OK. I correct the script mailto my main BV email address.
    STILL NO RESULTS.
I created another e-mail address within my BV account and correct the script again to the new email address. IT WORKS !!! Then I realized that my main BV email address has been screwed up for some reason. Probably because I set up 2 email systems (Neomail and Squirell) at the same time. I am not sure though, need more investigation.
    This is my final form:
    www.nguyenthaihocfoundation.com/applicationform.html

My form is pretty much basic and there are many other things that I have to do like setting the required fields, auto responders, forwarding email addresses . . . but I think that the main part is done and the rest needs time.

To make a long story short, I would like to suggest the steps to do if anyone has the intention to make forms as following:

    -Watch the tutorials (video part)
    http://www.vodahost.com/DemoDemo/bvt/custom_bluevoda_basicform.htm
    http://www.vodahost.com/DemoDemo/bvt/custom_bluevoda_formelements.htm
    -Read Pablo instructions at:
    http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/forms/933-another-forms-question.html
-Make sure that your e-mail address is correctly setup in Cpanel. Test it several times.
-Enjoy the thrill of a job well done!

    Hope that this will help.
    Cheers,
    Quyhurry
