Thanks for your updated comments re. the BV Guestbook, especially that one can expect an error message.

I got the guestbook up and running after I read your comment to launch it before switching properties to 777 but when I did switch to 777, I lost the guestbook and got Internal Server Error message 500.

Also, it isn't clear to me whether I should save the guestbook as guestbookb.php or guestbook.php so I did one of each under two differently named navigation buttons. They each worked but now neither do. Does it make a difference whether guestbook.php as an extra b or not?

Each guestbook is 3 kb and suddenly a guestbookdb.php of 1 kb has appeared in FTP. Is that messing up the Guest Book?

This is on a new site that I don't want SEOd yet but I'll tell you the url if you need it.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

The GuestBook Cannot be seen in Preview Mode, you must publish your page that contains the guestbook.
You will see an error message when you have published your Guestbook but this will disappear after you have made the first entry.
Change the permissions of 'guestbookdb.php' to 777 otherwise your guests won't be able to write data.

There are 3 files involved when creating a Bluvoda Guest Book:

1. The BV page that you created the GB on. ( call it whever you wish but should NOT have a .php extension)

2. The guestbook.php which is created when you publish number 1

3. The guestbookdb.php which is created when you first make an entry into your guest book.
(always LINK to the full URL of the page that you published in number 1)

My guestbook is up and running now.

How do I delete a message? I logged in successfully but highlighting a text and clicking on delete doesn't remove an entry. Haven't seen anywhere on BV how to delete.

And is there anyway to alter the iFrame to crop the guestbook so earlier messages don't appear online.

Glad you got it working...............

Click on the Advanced button
Show Admin Link
Enable this option to display the 'Admin Login' link on the bottom of the guestbook.
Clicking this link will allow you to login as Administrator and remove messages from the guestbook.
If you decide not to display the admin login link, you can login with this URL:
The default password is 'password'

Dont crop, just use the sizing buttons(bottom one) around the GB until all but a couple of message are showing(or whatever you wish)

May have to play around a little by publishing and then re-adjusting........

You know what? You have to highlight onto the line below the message to see the delete option.

I highlighted so carefully that I never saw it.

Rewind the 'dream' comment. I redid my guestbook to put it on a proper site page and found that guestbookdb.php still has to be changed from 644 to 777 manually.

But this time I was able to launch the guestbook first time, without a hitch.

I still have a question about overriding, though. Since my iFrame override didn't work on the ******logy page, I deleted the three guestbook php entries on the right side of FTP before republishing xxx/book.html on which guestbook.php is located.

Is that the proper procedure or can one override guestbook php files?

And can I override an .htm file in an iFrame??

Using either method, you still had to cmod the property to 777
because the guestbookdb.php file is only created when you make your first entry.
Yes, you can overwrite the htm file when you publish it again.

Just discovered another thing about guestbook. You have to enter a Name or the message doesn't register.

Since I was testing my own guestbook, I just wrote testing in the message field and didn't bother with a name. Nada.

I wrote the name of the organisation in the name field in the first/launch message to create a Welcome message so it wasn't until I tested the guestbook with a second message that I made this discovery.

I've added [required] after Name so visitors won't make the same mistake.
