  • Google sitemap error

I created a sitemap & submitted my site (http://www.biggerbetterman.com) to Google, following the excellent tutorial from Bluevoda, but when I checked my account in Google a few days later, it said there were sitemap errors. The errors are:

    147 Paths don't match
We've detected that you submitted your Sitemap using a URL path that doesn't include the www prefix (for instance, http://example.com/sitemap.xml). However, the URLs listed inside your Sitemap do use the www prefix (for instance, http://www.example.com/myfile.htm). URL:

This is not a valid URL. Please correct it and resubmit.

I tried redoing the sitemap & resubmitting, but it did not fix the errors.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Google sitemap error

When you put a link to your pages include the www prefix, for example your pages are link like this http://pages.com instead of http://www.pages.com.Also when you generate sitemap remove all the links that are not a valid url like mailto:jack@biggerbetterman.com.When your done resubmit it.Hope this helps.

        Re: Google sitemap error

Just a quick update in case anyone else has this problem. I changed all my internal links (adding the 'www') & resubmitted, but when I checked Google Webmaster Tools again I now had 10 site map errors!
I eventually discovered that the problem was that I had originally submitted my site to Google without the 'www' - my site was listed as http://biggerbetterman.com, but all my internal links had the 'www' added. So I started again & resubmitted to google as http://www.biggerbetterman.com. This solved the problem. As long as the site name submission and the links are consistent, either with the 'www' or without, it will work.
Hope this helps save someone else a few hours!
