      Hi Dinobites..

Think i found a solution for it.. You can redirect your current URL to another one of your choice. CLick on the video link below so you can see how to redirect your current domain to a domain that you prefer.

      http://www.vodahost.com/DemoDemo/cpa...rlredirect.htm

Maybe this could be a solution to our problem..

        Re: Changing current domain name

There is no way to change your domain name. It is registered and remains that way. You can purchase another domain name, named as you like, and then you either redirect it on the site you have already created, or you add the new one in your account as addon domain and then publish your site in this addon domain.

          Re: Changing current domain name

I have created a website on Oscommerce and looks much better then the one i created on Blue voda.
I would like my future customers to be able to go directly to the the site that i created on Oscommerce without having to write "main" at the end of the URL adress. Ex.. www.pocketbiketuning.net/main (This is the Oscommerce site..Not finished and not visible cause i made a mistake and cant fix it until i come home tonight)

The one that i created on Blue Voda is the following www.pocketbiketuning.net

How can i swith, so that the Oscommerce site is called www.pocketbiketuning.net instead of www.pocketbiketuning.net/main

          Hope its possible

          Thanks

Simply make your BV index page a Welcome page, and put in it a redirecting piece of code that will get them to www.pocketbiketuning.net/main

Any website thats sole purpose is to redirect to another site is in direct violation of Google, Yahoo, and MSN policies. It would not be a wise choice. It's up to you but I would keep the domain you already have. keep things simple, its the simple sites that succeed. pet121

Hi pet, nice seeing you back on the forum.

The post above meant that visirors get redirected from a page of the site to a another page, inside the site itself. I'm sure you have done a lot of in depth study on the issue, but i thought that this kind of redirection doesn't affect negatively SE. And id the simplest way to avoid Jusa to re-install the Oscommerce in the main directory and having to republish everything. Do you think it could lead to SE listing fall?

                          Re: Changing current domain name

I think the point I was trying too make was this. Often I will visit a sit with a title, say "boat sale" and the description would be something like " huge boat sale for ocean travel, hotels, hardrock cafe. So I click and it takes me to a porn site.

But if you use your old domain that is a actual site and have a link to your new domain site there would be no problems, I agree. But if you get a new domain plan on building a new site with new content ect... But then again even just one page redirects to a new domain its a violation. Because the page would misrepresent itself, therefore it would be spam.

In my first paragraph the example I used who be a "spammy result" because the descrition and tilte are falsely representive and is a site whos sole purpose is to redirect.

People who do such things are usually s****ers and blackhatters, basically dirty webmasters who ride on keywords to rank high. Maybe I am not understanding the problem correctly. I know this I have shut down many websites because they were scaping my site, and yes I lost a few bucks.

But I do know this, your current domain that has a website already. The only way I beleive of doing this is bulid a new site around your new domain. Plus there is the issue of duplicate content as well, another violation of major SE's.

But I will try and put some time into this but need the link. I would like to know why he/she would like a domain change? Thank you for the welcome back. pet121

                            Re: Changing current domain name

                            Hi pet,

i think we have two different issues here. Jusa has created two different sites, inside the same domain name. Both have the same argument. The first one is published in her public_html folder, using BV. Then, if i understand well, asking for some Oscommerce features, she created a folder, called "main", installed Oscommerce there, and built an entirely independent site in that folder. She likes the one built with OScommerce, and she now wants to delete the BV one, and transfer the OScommerce site to the public_html folder. So she has to install again Oscommerce in the public_html folder, and re-make her whole site. That, because Oscommerce pages from what i know, cannot be simply transferred from folder to folder. So i suggested that she could make of her index page, a welcome page, maybe with some information about her company, that then would redirect automatically or with a link button, to the pages built with Oscommerce in the "main" folder. Everything is in the site itself, so there wouln't be any SE rule violation to affect listings.

Dinobite's case id totaly different: he wants (if i understand well) to change the main domain name related to his account. I don't know if this can be done, ***** (or someone else from Voda) is qualified to answer that.

                              Re: Changing current domain name

I viewed the tutorial and if you redirect within the same domain its fine. For example: xxx.yousite.com redirect to xxx.yoursite.com/yourextension.html.

But I am affraid if you do this xxx.yoursite.com redirect xxx.mysite.com this would be a violation. Again the sole purpose of the xxx.yoursite.com would be to redirect to xxx.mysite.com.

Say I had my site with a the title: "dogs for sale" and a decription tag of "all kinds of dogs for sale" I enter all sorts of keywords to optimize my site. A surfer is looking for dogs for sale and so happens he/she comes accross my site. It appears to be exactly what they want. They click on the site and its redirected to a different domain and something totally different.

In the situation for Jusa I would make the site he wants his index page or also called front page. He can also redirect because he would be redirecting within the same domain xxxpocketbiketuning.net

But I pretty sure once your have a site built around a domain and you would like to change the sites domain I am affraid its not possible. First there would be a duplicate content issue. Google usually with ban the newest site first, in this case the new domain. The only way logically of doing this would be too keep the current site domain and content. Put in a link to direct to the newer site. But make sure there is no duplicate content on the newer site. Another solution would be to delist your unfavorable domain from the net, but this would take a very long time to do.

The lesson, when selecting a domain make dam sure its the one you want, its not easy changing it. If you redirect your domain to another the SE will drop you for spam. Usually in about 3-4 days.

I would suggest keeping the current domain. If its relative to your site stay with it thats what matters to SE. Now some may beleive me some won't but I have shut down many sites because of spammy results. The industry I am in is highly competitve, once your in the top ten in Google out of 20 million pages beleive me its not a pleasant experience.

I have s****ers copying my description tag using my domain name all the time. I am a affiliate so there is money involved. Morality and money rarely mix. So I have learnt alot on the subject, so much so I get at least ten emails a day asking to shut down sites.

To conclude, Jusa the advice given is good. For the people who would like to change their domains are asking for trouble. Perhaps get another domain a build a new site with new content.

I am no master at this but I do learn something everyday. Pet121
