Fixed vs. scrolling parts of page

How do I create a page that has a fixed section (menu bar) on the left and a scrollable part (text, images, etc.) for the rest of the page.
The text part would scroll, the menu bar would stay put, irrespective of the scrolling.

Ok... hmm.. well im not sure what you are asking because if you add a navigation bar it will stay where you put it. You just lengthen the page and put everything else where you need it.

If you are talking about text that floats .. you will have to script that in an html box.

Just use an in line frame (iframe).
Or use a text box with disabled="disabled" added to the inside tag of the text boxes html area to tidy the look up of the box.

What I had in mind is the vertical page-site, ideal for hand-held units.
So, what I'm trying to re-create (after having seen such sites but unable to find them to demonstrate), is something like this:

www.gabor-music.com/scrollingpage1.html

So, the pink area would NOT scroll with the actual page, (that is the blue one.) The blue area is the actual page, holding all the content and should scroll down indefinitelly.

But, I think, this should be accomplished by other means then a the
i-frame or text-box.

The i-frame is what you need. Not sure why you refuse to use it.

I believe the SE's don't see the I-frame. Am I wrong?

You still have to have the pages that load into the i-frame on your site (in your public_html folder and they will be crawled, just make sure to tiltle the pages, have good page descriptions and metatags for them.

As Ed says, the iframe page will be seen on a server when crawled by the SE's. But the downside is that it will get indexed as just that page that appears in the iframe & not the whole page it came from. So it can look odd if the visitor found the page via a search with one of the SE's & just the page thats meant to be in the frame is all that shows.
The only other alternative is coding the page.

This appears to be the solution.

Apparently it also requires a fair degree of expertise...

And I have no idea how to proceed...

I may have to wait until my skills improve to execute.
