  • Secure This form...

OK, finally I am ready to setup the SSL certificate for this site. http://www.dresatlanta.com/

My only question is, I only need it for one of my newest form pages which I have not published yet, as it is the Rental Application that can be filled out on the website. Does the certificate cover the entire website or just that specific page. Once I get some answers, I am sure I will have followup questions. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Secure This form...

An SSL Certificate covers the entire site, AS LONG AS you use https:// links in your menus. BUT if the user types himself http:// instead of https:// he will be seing the non-secured version of the pages.

Usually SSL certificates are used in conjunction with a .htacess file that forces all or certain pages to be through the ssl.

Please note that the email sent to you by the form is NOT covered by the ssl. So you should NOT be downloading these emails directly to your desktop, but you should be seing them through your webmail through the https:// connection (secure)

You should be all set once the ssl certificate is setup.

Also keep in mind you don't need to use the https:// protocol on all your pages, only the ones where data is exchanged that needs to be secure. Any page that is requested through https:// will take longer to load start-finish.

VodaHost will install the ssl but will not create the .htaccess file for you.

You need to create it and upload it on your site yourself.

Forgive me but I am stupid.....what does that mean. Also, should I see a lock on the website or something when it is installed.

              Re: Secure This form...

I'm not sure what you need clarified.

VH will install the SSL certificate on your site.

You WILL se a lock icon if you visit your website using https://www........... instead of http://www.......

The SSL certificate encrypts the data exchanged between site and visitor. However, it is necessary that the communication is through SSL (https://....) or the ssl offers no protection.

So you need the .htaccess file mentioned above that will redirect non secure URLs to the secure ones.

                Re: Secure This form...

Excellent info, Thanks as always. I figured out what you meant.......I have a question about the page I am securing. I setup the form and made all the box colors the same, but they did not come out the same. What do I need to do to fix it. Here is the page. https://www.dresatlanta.com/rental-application.php

                Thanks in advance.

                  Re: Secure This form...

You form fields are all the same, a light grey. If you see different colors, you proibably have Google bar with autofill activated. This feature turns to another color (usualy yellow) the fields it recognizes and can autofill, so you can know which fields can be automatically filled in.

Once again, you are the man. I did not even think about the autofill, which I really can't stand any way. Thanks.
