  • Publishing Question

    Hi,

I did post in the Publishing forum yesterday, but as I've not had had any answers yet, it could mean that..

    a. no one reads that section.
    b. no one understands my problem

    or

    c. I'm being ignored for asking dumb questions! (hopefully not!)

    Anyways....

I've previously published a holding page in BV with VH.

    Fine, this seems to work

    http://www.steeltimeltd.co.uk

now my site is ready to go live (I don't think I'll ever finish it though, so many other things I can do to improve it!)

Soooooo, I've published all of the pages; this seemed to be successful, but all I get is my original holding page when I go to the site...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Pete

You have two index pages. One is index.html, the other is Index.html. Publish your new page as index and delete Index.

        Tom's got it!
You also need to rename your links or pages to match on your other pages. Preferably all should be lower case text.
Also noticed that no images are showing up. Possibility that its an add on site & the link protection is on?
        Regards Chris.

None of the pages work in menu. I can't see any pictures. And it's not good, that new links opens up in new tab. Change that from _blank to _self

                Re: Publishing problem...

It's a good practice to do the following from the very
beginning when you start working on your website:

If you don't have .htaccess file on the server, you can create one using MS Notepad and upload to the server.

In .htaccess file, type the following one statement - watch for the spaces.

                ErrorDocument 404 /404-error-page.html

upload .htaccess to the server under public_html.

                In BlueVoda, create
404-error-page.html and add some message to it.

It's a good practice to do it now.

                In
404-error-page.html file, include the same menu. So as long as you are not ready, at least it will show the page all the time instead of giving you the 404 error with the menu on it.

                  About Images

Another thing you can do is to connect to your server
through BlueVoda FTP, and see where your images are.

Normally, the images are in the /images sub-directory under public_html.

If you have them under public_html which is your
http://www.steeltimeltd.co.uk/, you should point your link
to where the images are on the server.

If you don't find the images on the server, then I suggest
                  you create /images sub-directory under public_html
and manually upload all the images you need.

On your BV page, Just point to the exact location on the server where each image is.

                    About files

The same check you can do for your files as for images.

See if you point to the correct sub-directory, if any.

                            Re: Publishing Question

The Publish All Files choice means that every object on the page you are publishing will be republished. Otherwise, you can choose to republish only objects that you've modified. No need to delete all files.
