google tapped

Hi.
Ive seen mentioned in various forums sites/phpbb forums being "google tapped" It apparently makes links shorter, and improves indexing on search engines.
The reason im asking is, up until recently, my site was showing up top of the page in google when using the keywords. A competitiors site, that has been running a maximum of 3 weeks (ours has been runing for months, and has many members), and is just forum based, is now top of the page in google, and now we dont even show?????
They are using PHP nuke, and have it google tapped, and the pages are "html compliant"?
Can anyone explain the google tapped and html compliant please.
Is my site html compliant, and is the forum i have html compliant?

Any help appreciated. Heres my site www.civic5.com and the forum is www.civic5.com/forum our key words are "ma mb mc honda civic". plus a few more

Your forum most likely is W3C compliant which directs html coding. They are probably using a plugin to make urls shorter and easier to spider.
