  • html box problem

So far I haven't had any problems, such as placing youtube videos where I want on my pages. However now I am placing banner ads on my pages and when I open an html box, paste in the code, and move the html box where I'd like it to be on the page - say on the upper right side of the page - it's never even close to the area. In the preview I find it down at the farthest bottom point of the page on the right. If I move the html box to the top left of the page, in the preview it shows at the very bottom of the page in the center. What is the trick to placing banner ads with html on a page? This is the first I've run into this problem.

    Thanks!

    Re: html box problem

PS - I tried putting the html box in the upper left corner and it still appeared at the bottom of the page in the preview.

I also tried entering the html code into a table and placing that on the page where I'd like it, still, same thing, ends up at the very bottom of the page on the right.

    Pulling my hair out here.

      Re: html box problem

      1) Delete the Table in which you pasted HTML.
      2) Delete any HTML you have pasted anywhere else on the page as Text (in a text box, or simply pasted onto your Blue Voda page).
      3) Provide me with the page URL so I can take a look at it to see what you've done (or not done).

In the meantime, review this THIS TIP

The page is under construction, I published it so you can see what's happening. I have the html box on this page, as you can see it's showing at the bottom right corner. I placed it along the right of the first text box on top.

It also seems to be making the page way wider than it is.

LOL! Notorius Lake Havasu, eh? Know it all too well ... grew up in the Bay Area.

OK .... please answer a few questions for me before we get started?
          A. How wide is your BV page set?
          B. What is the X-Y plot of the HTML box you have pasted the banner to?
          C. Create a simple rectangle "SHAPE" and size it/move it to approximately where you wish the banner ad to appear, and tell me wha the X-Y position of that SHAPE is.

Once I get an idea of your page and your current HTML box, then we can solve this...

            Re: html box problem

I lived in the bay area too when I was younger.

Okay, I have my page size set at 760 wide. It was 860 wide but I changed it while working on this problem. Didn't make any difference though.

            x - 187 y - 412

In order to put it where I want it I have to change the page size back to 860 (at least on my monitor).

            I've reshaped it, placed it, now it's showing x - 171 y - 876

I will be adding lots of ads throughout the site, I really hope this isn't going to be a big mathmatical problem for me!

              Re: html box problem

I republished it now with the changes, now look where it is. Scroll all the way down and all the way to the right. Could there be something in the code that's placing the ad on the page where I don't want it?

              Here's the code -

              <a href="http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-3634613-10685124" target="_blank">
              <img src="http://www.tqlkg.com/image-3634613-10685124" width="120" height="600" alt="4 Star Hotel Under $99 on CheapOstay.com" border="0"/></a>

Also it gives me the option to encyrpt the link, what is encrypting and should I be doing it?

                Re: html box problem

If you are placing your code in an HTML box, there is no "encrypting" option ...and yes, 1) you will need to reset your page wider -- to 870 (which today is about as wide as you should go to remain visible universally).

                2) Move your HTML box so the Axis reads "x=187 ; y=745" and tell me if it displays properly

                  Re: html box problem

If your page is going to be 870 wide, you will need to bring your "blue bar" all the way over to the left until the Y Axis reads "2" and then "stretch" the bar wider until by view the "Size" scale (near X-Y Axis) it reads 860 wide.
By placing it 2 pixels "in" and stretching it to 865, it will automatically be "centered on the page.

Since your Menu Buttons ("Home" - "Dance") are 134 wide, you will also need to move them to the left, also indented 2 pixels .... this is your "page margin" ... and you will also maintain 2-3 pixels in from the right side also.

                    Re: html box problem

                    When I move it to x - 187, the y shows 0. Can I manually set these?

                      Re: html box problem

Now ... you will need to take the time to "re-center" everything on your page.
Your images are 175 wide each, and you should have 15-20 pixels space in between them .. so just say you will need to provide for 545 pixels width on your page, and more space for the left and right margins of this "block" .. which includes your text also set to the same "Y" axis margin as the picture.

                        Re: html box problem

NO...I am more concerned about setting the Top-Left corner of the HTML box within the page and not "over" any other element ... I can't really determine how far down on the page it needs to be (the X Axis), but in order to keep the HTML box ON THE PAGE and stil give at least 2 pixels margin on the right, it needs to be placed at Y=745.....

You HAVE reset your page width to 875 first, yes?

                          Re: html box problem

2 pixels in, how do I know when I've done that? Where do I find the pixels?

This is starting to get more complicated!

                            Re: html box problem

Please! Read the TIP once again....the X-Y Axis plots the exact position of the top-left corner of any object .... if it reads "x=2 ; y=2" then your HTML box is 2 pixels DOWN (x) and 2 pixels to the right (y) of 0/0 position of your Rulers shown in BV

Your problem is you have your HTML box hanging off your page, and your page elements not as close to the left page margin as possible ... thus when you view your page, it is running "off the right side"

You need to reset your page width to 875 and move everything to the LEFT ... "indented" from the Ruler/Left Page Edge 2 pixels ... and re-center all your stuff + resize your 'blue bar' to 870

I did, it just never said these were pixels. So the y and the x are pixels, correct?
