Trouble publishing

Hello I am having problems publishing my pages, I have a website up and running and I have been trying to add additional pages plus make changes to exsisting ones but when I try to publish I just keep getting "serve has been re set", or it times out, the pages start to upload then seem to stick, I've checked all the contents and pictures for anything that may be causing the problem, is it possible that my FTP is clogged and may need to be emptied, can I delete all the files then re upload them or am I just wasting my time. Not sure what to do or where to start, I would be grateful for any help or advice. Also when I try to access my FTP manager via the tools menu on my bluevoda, I loggin using my user name and pass word but I can only access via the control panel. Please help.
