Help adding Twitter & Facebook link buttons

Please can someone explain in simple point form how one goes about adding:
Twitter and Facebook icons to your site.
Is there code that one needs to support them?
Where does one get the 'button' images?

There are free button images out there and you can pick up from web. If you know bit of html, you just need to add the image tag below pointing to the image button and the link pointing to you twitter or facebook like I did in my websites www.JustAskHouston.com
