I am experiencing a significant time delay when I revise the content of some pages and publish them. It sometimes takes over 16 hours for a revision to a web page to appear in the page on the website. Can someone tell me what is the maximum/minimum time delay I should plan for and/or how I can avoid this time delay.

should be instantly appear. once you publish, your new page will overwrite your old page, probably your browser is caching

This sounds more like a browser cache problem. Updates are done in live time and are viewable immediately.

You need to hit F5 a few times or hold down your shift key while hitting the refresh.

Your browsers cache 'remembers' pages so that when you go back you can do it quickly. You are seeing a remembered version of your page rather than the live one.
