  • How to add Viper Guestbook???

    Hi folks,

I searched through the threads already but couldn't find the answer I needed to the problem I'm having with installing a guestbook to my site.

I signed up through Fantastico to get the Viper Guestbook, and now I don't know what to do.

According to my control panel I have it installed... it says

    / (1.2 Final)

    under current installations.

I don't have a clue where I need to look to find the code (if there is one) or how to create a page for my website to put the guestbook on. Or does the guestbook go somwhere other than my created pages?

I'm probably missing something obvious, but all I got was this e-mail that said:

An instance of ViPER Guestbook was installed on http://www.mywebsite.com
    Full installation path: /home/myusername/public_html
    Public URL: http://georgehester.com/
    Admin URL: http://blahblah.php
    Username:
    Password: xxx
    MySQL database: myname_vgb1
    MySQL user: myname_vgb1
Time of installation: Tuesday, 13th June, 2006 @ 02:43:05 PM
DO NOT REMOVE the file named fantastico_fileslist.txt from the installation directory. It is used
    for uninstalling this application.

So, yeah.... I don't have a clue where I need to go from here...

    ugh!

Sorry but I'm just frustrated. I thought I did everything right and read the right stuff, but I got lost in this set up. I don't know where to look for anything because I've never had to use PHP or scripts or any of this stuff before.

    please help. :)

    Thanks!
    George

Well, I tried that before (because that's what I saw I needed to do) but I get a 404 Not Found error message.

Re: How to add Viper Guestbook???

Guestbook is built in php extension, here is your guestbook http://georgehester.com/index.php
don not install in root directory if you already have website in there, cause will make conflict. you need to uninstall and install it again in another sub directory ie. yourdomain/guestbook

          Nyoman,

Thanks... that does help me, but...

(I'm hoping not to upset anyone or bust blood vesels)

How do I uninstall it?? I don't even know how I installed it in the first place, let alone where to begin looking.

I am here looking at my control panel right now, and I don't have the slightest idea where to look for the file.

I first looked at the "My SQL Databases" and there it is there (I think) but I don't know what to do to uninstall it.

I'm so sorry... I'm 30 years old and I feel like a 3 year old trying to play chess... I don't know what ANY of the pieces are or mean and I especially don't have a clue how to get from one end of the board to another.

If anyone out there can make sense out of what I'm having trouble with, please drop me a line. I've only started using this in the last 2 days and I have been overwhelmed beyond what I ever thought.

also, I had never even heard of php until today. :\

Install and uninstall through fantastico in control panel and make sure when you reinstall, to fill it up the directory field with whatever name you want othewise your guestbook will be installed in root directory as you did before
            .

              Yay!!!

Thanks Nyoman... everything is working now.

I guess it was easier to do than I expected... though I had no idea I had to delete it from there. I kept looking in the wrong places.

              Thanks again. :)
