  • Adding page icon

    Sorry - I don't know the correct term for this - hope I can explain what I mean. Many websites now show an icon on the internet address bar - e.g. the diamond hosting symbol for Vodahost. Is there a way of adding an icon to my website?

    Re: Adding page icon

    Hi;

    The icon to which you refer is called a "favicon". Usually it is a small .ico file, commonly 16x16 px, although other formats can be used. Different web browsers pick up and display your favicon in different ways - the most simple being: leave a file called favicon.ico in the root of your website (this does not always work with all web browsers, however).

    Beyond this, you can add the code that displays the favicon to the <head> section of your website in various ways, depending on the file format:

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://yourdomain.com/favicon.ico" />

    <link rel="icon" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon" href="http://yourdomain.com/favicon.ico" />

    <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://yourdomain.com/favicon.png" />

    <link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="http://yourdomain.com/favicon.gif" />

    Hope this is of some help to you :)
