This tutorial will guide you on how to use the backup feature in cPanel. For the purpose of this guide, we'll presume that you're currently in cPanel hosting and therefore are viewing the primary display.

Let us begin to learn how to use the backup feature in cPanel. Scroll down the cPanel hosting screen and select Backups under the Files category located on cPanel hosting screen. Once you have selected Backups a new display will appear the Backups page where you will be able to manage your backups and/or restore the files in your hosting account.

In this account, it is on a server which has the daily, weekly, and monthly backups enabled. This means that the server is automatically backing up the files on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. To download a copy of theses backups to your computer, you can select any of these options under the Systems Backups.

Scroll down the page to the Partial Backups to learn how to do manual backups. There are several methods to backup your files depending on the files you want to backup.

-To backup only the home directory of your website, select the Home Directory button
-To backup a MySQL database from your account, select your MySQL file under Databases list
-To backup files in specific subdomains or filters, select the subdomains or filters under the Forwarders list or the Filters list

Let's begin to execute a full backup and save it to a remote FTP server. Select the Generate/Download a Full Backup button under the Full Backup section. A new display will appear where you will select from the Backup Destination drop down the Remote FTP Server. Type the email address you wish to send the complete report of this backup to. Type the Remote Server, where you want the backup to go to (example: ftp.mydomainname.com). Then type in the Remote User, which is your FTP username and below the FTP password. Finally, select Generate Backup button.

A new display will appear advising that your Full Backup is in Progress and you will receive an email when completed.

Let's go back to the previous screen, by selecting Go Back and then selecting Go Back again to the Partial Backups section. Now let's backup only the home directory to our local computer. Select Home Directory button. A small window alert will appear asking if you wish to download this file and to Save to Disk. Select OK. That is it; your home directory has now been backed up to your local computer.

If you wish to restore the previous home directory backup, select the Browse button under the Restore a Home Directory Backup. A window alert will appear for the File Upload. Select the Browse button to locate and select the backup file you wish to restore and select the Open button. And then select Upload button to the right of the Browse. A display will view the files that are now restored.

You can go to the Backups page to backup your files as often as you wish.
