    what is cpanel

This tutorial will guide you on how to use File Manager in cPanel. For the purpose of this guide, we'll presume that you're currently in cPanel hosting and therefore are viewing the primary display.

Let us begin to learn how to use File Manager in cPanel. Select the File Manager icon under the Files section of your cPanel hosting screen. Once you have selected File Manager a new display will appear the File Manager page. You can use File Manager to upload files to your account, delete files, change file permissions and many other functions.

You will notice that on the left hand side of your File Manager screen a collapsible list of your folders within your account. By clicking on the Folder you will notice that on the right side of your screen is a list of all files and folders within the folder selected on the left hand side of your screen.

Note that it is your public_html folder where all website files, HTML pages and gif images must go.

Let's upload a sample cgi script to the cgi-bin folder in the account. Select the cgi-bin folder icon listed on the left hand side of your screen under your public_html folder listings. Then select the Upload button listed on the top part of screen. Your page will refresh to a page where you will select Browse button and select the test_scriptl.cgi file to upload. Let's go back to the File Manager page, by selecting the link "Back to /home/abc123c/public_html/cgi-bin". You will see the file you just uploaded present in the cgi-bin folder in this account. Now select on the newly uploaded file test_scritpl.cgi by selecting the CGI image next to the file Name.

There are several things you can do with files in File Manager. On the top of the screen you can select to Copy a file, Move File, Delete a file, Rename a file and etc..

Let us select the Change Permissions icon listed on the top part of screen. From here you can change the permissions of the file you are working with. Let’s change the permissions by checking the boxes under User, Group and World and to correspond to Read, Write and Execute. Once you have selected the permissions of your choice, select the Change Permissions button. The permissions have been changed.

Now let’s move this file to a different location. Select the Move File that listed on the top part of the screen. Type the location you wish to move the file to and then select Move File(s). The file has been successfully moved and is no longer in this folder. You may locate the file where you have recently moved it.

Select the Delete icon at the top of the screen to delete this file. With confirmation by selecting the Delete File button. The file is now deleted.

File Manager is a quick and easy way to access and manage your website files, without having to use an FTP Program.

Select the Home icon on the top left of the screen to return to the main page of the cPanel hosting screen. This is the end of the tutorial. You now know how to use File Manager in cPanel.
