Default O.k I am going to try the impossible, help me along.

O.k I am going to try and keep of the alcohol for 3 months. Since working from home I spend far too much time down the pub/bar. I have never been a massive fan of drink but recently I seem to have over indulged and it is making me more tired and lethargic and all the other horrible things that go with too much beer.

Well I want to get fit again, lose a few pounds and show myself I have the willpower to do it. I wanted to say it on here as I want people to make sure I don't become tempted, so keep kicking my butt.

    Ill keep you posted.

Good luck and keep up the resolve - one day at a time as the saying goes. alcohol is very sneaky and easy to let in

    Paul,

Very true, I always seem to have low willpower and get mad at myself for saying things and never following them through. This time I am determined to do it. I will fill my time with other things.

Thanks Teri, You could do something if you remember, ask me each monday if I have laid of for the week, I do so******e a lot and temptation is going to be around every corner, but I really want to show myself i have the willpower.

Good luck and keep up the resolve - one day at a time as the saying goes. alcohol is very sneaky and easy to let in
Yes true, I dont drink more days than I used to, maybe 3 times a week, but the amount is the problem, too much time on my hands and I go out earlier. I just don't want to feel these horrible hangovers anymore.

Thanks for answering all, means a lot, I wont let you down : )

I know you can do it! You've battled far more difficult things when you were in your depression!

Now, I wouldn't want to see you not have your social hour. Those are important. But find a way to not drink - the non-alcoholic variety - or stick with tonic and lime. It might not sound so good - but the time spent with friends is what makes it worth it.

I'm with you all the way.

You got just take small steps at a time where learning about this kind of stuff in health class only it is about food. Just try and eliminate a 1 beer a day and untill you can get to one or none.

If your like me you don't do it and you won't it is easy to keep away.

I have been offered to drink and smoke and people bugging me to try it and i just say no. I won't do it i don't care what people say.

Proud to say i have never drank, tried to drink, or smoked in my life i am 15 and i still got a while to go but i am planning on staying like this.

Karel: Lot's of support for you here. Here is what I'd like to see you do. When you find you have time on your hands and would normally go to the pub early, instead come back here...yes right here to this thread and post. Type what your feeling, how your dealing with it and why this is better than going out and having a drink. And just think...we don't give you hangovers...do we? lol You can do it. But you will need to come here and talk to us...ok?

P.S. jOsh710...way to go!!! At 15 you keep up that great attitude! I am amazed at how mature so many of our young people are these days!!

Thank you Beth, half the problem is what I went through I suppose. I had a really hard time, truly awful. I came through it, helped others, wrote the book etc...I am now in some sort of catch up at times I think, trying to make up for all those lost years. I love my life now, but it does not have to be through beer, thanks for your words of support.

I have been offered to drink and smoke and people bugging me to try it and i just say no. I won't do it i don't care what people say.

Well done Josh, very hard when you are young. I have always had little willpower that way, this is why i am trying this challenge. I may realise how much better things are and not go back, or if I do, cut right down and just enjoy the odd drink now and again. i am going to get things to fill my time that I enjoy, so the boredom/pub cycle stops.

Thats a very good idea Cindy, I will do this. I keep thinking oh my dads birthday dinner, the gig at the pub in a week, fridays night out etc. But coming on here has made me stronger, I will keep you posted and if tempted I will post.

Heres to a drink free 3 months

    Hey Karel

Cindy gives some great advice there, and Terri will keep you on your toes weekly ... all good things ...

But, the first think I recognize is your heading ...

"OK I am goiing to try the impossible, help me along"

My advice ... take that word right out of your dictionary and your vocabulary ... as Choco pointed out, it's all about choices ...

I also would encourage you if you need medical help to please seek this. Alcohol withdrawal can have very serious effects on you. I do not know if you have alcoholic symptoms or merely want to get off of your binging you do ... so please if your body needs help, seek that help.

As with everything around here, there is plenty of support for you ...

One hour at a time, and on you go!! Congratulations on making this decision, you have so many things to look forward to, beating this will only make you "shine"!! Go Paul Go!!

Holly honest there is no problem, I don't love drinking enough for that. What has been happening is that I have been going out early, drinking far too much, coming home with fast food, then maybe playing poker until 4 in the morning and drinking some more. The next day is a total write off. I think it is also because I work from home and know I don't have to get up in a morning. I have said time and time again that I am no longer going to do it or cut down. Well I have broken this promise a few times. So I want to prove to myself that I do have some will power. I want to lose a bit of weight and get fit. I have been doing plenty of good things fitness wise recently but all the hard work is being undone through drinking too much.

So I want to prove a few things to myself and show i have some willpower, lose a few pounds, feel healthy and show that I can do this. It is very hard as most of my social life is around drinking. But I am going to do this and not let myself down. the money I save is going towards a new stereo system.

Schajin way to go, if you want to join me lets do it. Do as I do and treat yourself to something with the money you save. I am going out for a valentines meal tonight and my partner said why not wait until after then, I said NO, the old me would have. I have started and for the first time ever I am going to drink coke with my meal. No more hangovers bliss. I am going to post at the weekend as that is the real test. But keep me updated as much as you can and lets help and encourage each other. Anyone else on board are welcome.

Today is fine Holly. I would have had a drink by now this week, not missed as yet. But the real test comes at the weekend. I cannot remember ever not having a drink at the weekend. The meal is tonight (my mistake) but that should go o.k. It is when I am out with friends and they are all drinking, that's the real test. But went to town today and saw the stereo of my dreams, so that's the goal.

So glad I posted here now as it has given me so much more determination.

it is a minde trip Paul WILL is the word <<were there is a will is a way>>you can do it ...!!!!
I will be very proud if I do this and it will help in so many ways, THANKS.

    Hey Paul.

Dont worry about the weekend! It will be fine. Keep thinking about that stereo! I know Im only 19, but alcohol was playing a huge part in my life as well. In the mornings before college some days I used to drink. But decided to stop then I was put on tablets for anxiety so couldnt drink then either lol. Have fun tonight and keep thinking of the stereo!

Thanks TerI for the support, yes the stereo was still in the window this morning when I went past.

I have still not had a drink and find it really weird not to have a hangover for four days, its nice though and helps me assess new goals and things I want to do with my life and my work on-line.

I wanted to post today as its five-a-side tonight and we always go for a drink afterwards, so my first test of drinking coke while my friends drink the beer.

I know I wont be tempted, but I will post on saturday as this is going to be the biggest test, the dreaded weekend, but I don't miss these hangovers one bit.

I know you don't consider yourself an alcoholic, but you might want to try an AA meeting.. you don't have to be a drunk to go, and there are lots of people there doing exactly what you are doing - trying to NOT drink..

    Thanks for that Lara,

I hope I don't come across as though I have a drink problem. I have only ever drunk around 3/4 times a week. I very rarely ever drink the night after I have been out. My problem is willpower, I drink and then play poker until all hours, go to the casino. Wake up feeling awful and then saying I am going out for 5 drinks and then going to bed next time, no poker, casino etc...

This I keep breaking, not only this but I am doing loads of things to get fit and drinking is reversing it all. The problem as I have said is working from home and wanting to get out and see people, I go out too early, have too many because I don;t have to get up in a morning, this leads to playing poker and the day after being wasted.

So its the willpower as much as anything. I don't want to feel like **** the day after, I want to lose a few pounds and get fit. The trouble is my social life does revolve around the pub, this I want to change, I can't do this when I keep breaking my own promises, so I want a long break to prove things to myself and change certain aspects of my life for the better.

    Thanks for posting.

    Paul

If not a drinking problem, could be a problem setting priorities.....Glad you seem to be doing better...life is making decisions and none of us make the right ones all the time...so it is a learning game.

    Hi Teri,

    Thanks for asking : )

It was hard on saturday as we always go out with friends on the night, I must admit I would have liked a few, not too many but a few. But I never really weakend. This is telling me a lot about what I was doing and the awful hangovers that were ruining the next day. One thing I know is going to come out of this is i am going to really cut down and enjoy my drinking and not let it take over and do it to excess.

I am playing squash tonight, this would have been a no, no a couple of weeks ago as I used to drink most of the day on sundays with friends, I just went and watched my local team at rugby, never really missed it. The whole idea is to get things in my life that I enjoy, but don't all entail having a few drinks.

Cheers for asking, hope you had a good weekend also.

    Hi Teri,

The book is going really well, I sell around 30 a week and it just shows how popular it is. I studied the subject for years after my own recovery, which really was the best education anyone can have.

I am also getting offers to do talks on the subject and it is all down to the success of the book, which does get very good feedback. i also wanted to build a site where people trusted me, my main concern is always the people I help. The growth of the site though has made it impossible to answer the sheer volume of emails I receive, that is the sad part.

Putting the whole thing together was hard work, but when you receive an email saying you have changed somebodys life it makes it all worth while.

On the book side of things, you don't have to pay a penny, money is not my god and never will be. Just email your address through the contact page and it will be a pleaseure to send one out to you, I don't want anything for it

    Regards Paul

    mmmmmmmm that's odd Teri.

Well I am receiving emails no problem from others. David has been in touch through the firstwebcall address.

I don't know at all, I was able to email you, could you not try replying to this and see what happens?

I also have a non vodahost account try..... anxietynomore@fsmail.net

I don't have to hide anything as it gets spammed to death on a daily basis anyway.

I am fine by the way, hope things are good for you. By the way I have been wanting to ask for a while, sorry but is Teri a female or male name?

    Hiya Cindy,

Thanks for checking in, I am doing fine and loving my new outlook on things. My body took some getting used to the new fitness regime, but I am feeling great and have lost some weight also.

Best thing I ever did, I must confess though saturdays are the hardest when everyone around me is drinking, but I will suceed.

Thanks for checking in Cindy, really nice to know I have the support to make sure I don't go astray.

Its been hard but you learn so much while doing it, boredom really was the key to me drinking too much. I have learnt to add new things into my social life, ones that don't require someone to use a drill on my head in the morning.

Not bowing to peer pressure is hard and i totally admire you for doing it.

Not sure if you will see this Sharon(Schjain).

I just wondered how you went on with the no drinking? did you manage it?

I had my first drink last Saturday, it has been ver hard but served its purpose and made me change a lot of things. I have a life away from the pub and don't feel the need to fill in the gaps with beer. I also applied for a part time job today. Working from home gives me far too much time.

When I first set my site up and wrote the book my whole day was spent with this. Now all this is done, apart from a little buying and selling I have too much time. So fingers crossed I get the job, there is a lot of metting different people involved, which is what I like doing.

    Good luck, Paul!

People wonder why I do what is called "workamping" here - but I do it also because I need to fill my days/hours with something other than my normal routine. And it creates it's own social life of sorts also :)

It's always heartwarming to read of people's successes - and you are successful in so many ways - most importantly - personally. ;)

Thank you Beth for those kind words.

You are right about needing an escape and whichever way that is it is helpful...'What we need is a break from the old routine' was the line in a song and is so true.

The job is just driving part time, this includes meeting different people through the day. This is something I miss more than anything, the interaction with people. The alarm going off I don't, but every plus has a minus
