Default Collectors-Info, judavvforum, or CarbonTerry, Please Help!

    Hi,

Could someone help me? I have published 5 pages to my site now. All the other pages, the navigation buttons work fine, no problems. But on this one page, everytime you click the home button... it like crosses the information on that page with the information on the homepage and it loads funny.

My site address is http://www.fls-riders.com and the page I speak of is the suggestions page.

And then... oddly enough.. when i re-publish my homepage to fix what it distorted... the homepage messes up the suggestions page but the homepage stays fine... weird!

(This is a copy of the messages I posted on my "Navigation Links Distorting Homepage" post.)

When you went to the site, I was probably fiddling with it trying to figure out what it is.... was the text purple on the buttons? If so... thats why. The text on the buttons on the main page is red.

Also, I've found now... that any page will intermix with the suggestions page if yoiu link to the suggestions page or link from the suggestions page to another page. The functional links are "home", "contact members", "awards", "suggestions", and "roster". I'm really lost as to what I did wrong. Any help would be appreciated (and I promise to leave it alone this time til you can help.) Thanks!

    Hi,
I have now visited your page again, and still no sugestions button there.
Text of buttons is purple, and where you mention it was supposed to be bottom bar, there are just a lot of green - - - - from left to right.

Is this supposed to be a banner?
If so, which function you have used to put it in BV?

Roster page opens on games button with distorted txts, strategies (not found).
Strategies button only appears in awards page.

I think i might help with at least one of the problems of your page.
For start, all your linking seams to be messed up:

    HOME PAGE:
»homepage should be linking itself, and if you press home at your home page, you will go to a not found page.

    BUTTONS ON HOMEPAGE:
»On Contact members you are linking a page stating "outstanding achievers"(don't know if it is correct)

    »Rooster: page not found

    »Strategies: page not found

»Games: links to page named FLS_Riders Roster in wich text is distorted

    »Surveys: page not found

»Awards: links to contact page information, and here you have the suggestions button,

    »Graphs: linking to suggestions.

CONTACT MEMBERS PAGE:(the one that say Outstanding Achievers)
    »Home: OK
    »Graphs:Page not found
    »Games: page not found
    »Strategies: page not found
»Roster: Linking to FLS_Riders Roster page(I guess its correct)
    »Surveys: Page not found
    »Contact members:OK
    »Sugestions: OK

I advise you to do this kind of checking, and see if you can fix it.
    If not, post here again!

    Hope of help,

    Susana

That's exactly what I'm saying.... the green blurry text is from the suggestions page... the buttons (when they are purple) is from the suggestions page... for some reason tho.... when you mouse over them, they are still reading as the home page buttons. The reason the graphs page, and survey page, and strategies page, and games page are not found is cuz they aren't built yet. The reason some of the buttons are leading you to other pages other than labeled, is cuz it is still going by the homepage directory even though the text on them at first shows the suggestions page directory (you can tell this, because there is actually a button on the homepage that reads "home".) This is what I can't figure out how to do. Try visiting the actual suggestions page at http://www.fls-riders.com/suggestions.html

Okay, so I re-published the original way the homepage functions and looks again. So, now, when you go into the suggestions page, that will be messed up instead of the homepage... that's the way it's working for some reason, and i don't understand why... I'm not gonna visit it again though til I receive another reply, so you can see what I'm talking about.

I'll try to help. Let's do one page at a time. Is the home/index page correct?

(BTW, I am not crazy about the navigation menu moving around from place to place)

On the Suggestions page. Manually re-do the links and publish. I'll be around until 11:30PM CDT.

    Hi,

Thank you very much, Terry for replying. Okay, so, i redid all the buttons and republished the page. That solved most of the problem--the navigation buttons aren't intermixing anymore, however it still gives the homepage that green blurry text on the bottom... this is from the suggestions page as well. Any ideas there? Thanks again, and I'm sorry it took so long to reply... I got busy today.

I just republished the homepage to get that blurriness out. Now, its just the lettering on the suggestions page messed up. It does that... whichever page I republish, it messes up the other one, I don't understand that.

It can happen if you cut and paste items from one page to another. If the item/shape has the same name and you change/modify it on one page it can effect another.
I suggest that you re-do the green items for each page.
I cannot see anything green on the suggestions page. On the index page there is a green 'something" but I cannot tell what it is.

If you look in your public_html folder you will see that all of your elements are there. They are not by page but one big file (public_html).
Let's say you have a shape named bv001.gif on your index page that is red. Then on your suggestions page you copy from the index page and paste into the suggestions page. However, you change the color to blue and publish the page.
Your public_html file cannot have 2 files named the same (bv001.gif) as with any folder on your computer. That shape/file will remain blue and will also be blue on your index page because there can only be one file of bv001.gif and you last told the web builder that you wanted that file to be blue.

The homepage doesn't originally have any green writing... the green writing has only appeared since I have added the suggestions page. I do not cut and paste anything onto the page. I simply save an image, and then insert it. With the texts, I insert the text and then save as image. I have republished the homepage again.

    This is what's happening...

Where you see the "green something" on the homepage... I originally have small blue font telling the user to click on the image to see other backgrounds like that image, and on the suggestions page where you see a blue blur... I originally have green text saying "I'm ready to listen now, please click my ear so that I can", this is then linked into my email here.

Somehow... these two text lines have intermixed themselves....

Is the text added thru BV as text or an image of text?
Did you intend to link the entire (almost) background picture to an outside website?

    Hi Terry,

Thanks for the help and the advice and compliment. Okay, I think I have it fixed now. I simply redid the text and the link. What I was doing... is I use my irfanviewer to crop a part of the exact same image. I then insert the cropped portion back onto the image so that I can then link only a certain part of the picture to the email (in this case, the ear). So, its not really cutting and pasting... its more creating a new image and then inserting that image on top of an image that's already there. Anyway, re-doing it helped for some reason. Thanks again. You've been a life saver! Oh, I added you to my buddies list... is this ok?

    Thanks
    Dawnee

What method are you using to save all of your text as a gif file? Why not add text? I understand that some of the artistic text has to be an image but......everything?
If it is important to you, SE rank/placement will be quite low.

No, unfortunately, I can't take credit for the artwork. That's why all my pages have references to the links to go to give credit to the artists. I have kept the copyrights on all of them that had the copyrights on them, and a lot of the sites that I went to gave permission to use the artwork as long as you gave reference to their site. So, that's what I've been doing. Thanks for complimenting me on my choices of background though!

I have no idea what the S/E rank, placement is that you speak of. This is actually my first website I've ever attempted to make (hence all the stupid questions). Basically... what I do is I insert the text, then bring up the text properties and I check the box that says "Publish text as image". I do this simply because I found otherwise, it was kind of haphazard whether or not the text would actually show when I added the backgrounds. (And I add the backgrounds first, but when I tried without the background, text worked fine.. but with, not always.)
