  • Archive unused pages?

    Hi All,

I can't remember where I read it, I think it was Google, but I remember something being said about it being better to archive pages that you don't want shown on your website, rather than deleting the page.

Is there a prefered method for archiving these unwanted pages?

    Where should I store them?

Other than removing all links to the unwanted pags, how can I prevent people accessing the unwanted pages?

For example, on my website, I have a "search this site" box and when you enter a keyword for something, its displays the pages that I no longer want available for public viewing and these pages don't even have links to them anymore.

better to archive pages that you don't want!

If you dont want it why keep it?
It only takes up space on your server which could be put to better use.

How do I archive them so that the spider bots/crawlers or whatever they are called don't keep indexing them (if that the right term)?

      Where do I archive them?

Some pages I have already deleted but if I type the URL exactly, I can still open the page.

For example, the following link will take you to a page that I have deleted from BV months ago.

Best to delete them and then create a custom error page should these links be visited in the future. Search this forum for custom error pages, I know its been covered and is great because it keeps the visitor within the site. If I find it I'll post it.
