          Re: New PC

I must be the only sucker that likes norton .... ok tis ok to be different, lol, right? I have really never had a problem with norton but i know alot do. Also i swear by Adaware and a similar program called Ewido. Also if I am going to type code or text i use a freeware called Crimson Editor. It is similar to notepad with alot more options. Now that I am learning to use Blue Voda I hope to never need to type large amounts of code ever again.

            Re: New PC

Lot of people use Norton, its drawback is its habit of attaching itself to a computer and deciding what is good for it and what should be blocked.

Its biggest drawback is when you try to uninstall it.

              Re: New PC

Might I step in? I agree about AVG. Very good program. McAffee is large and cumbersome, asks user to do too much- in my opinion.

Norton- wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole!!!!!!! Big-cumbersome and a royal pain in the..............
Also- the most attacked antivirus out there. I have had several peoples computers that I have fixed actually
have Norton turned off by the attacking trojan/worm/program.

I very much like the Windows defender. Very good. There are several programs that I install on anyones computer I do work on.

              1- AVG
              http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
2- Clean Up (great one button clean up of temp files and cache's)
              http://www.stevengould.org/software/.../download.html
              3- Windows Defender
              http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
              4- Spyblaster
              http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

These are core in my experience. Don't forget to download Java Run time Enviroment by Sun Microsystems ( http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp ) It doesn't come standard on Windows OS any more.

Have fun and enjoy a faster computer.

              PHP- is a blast!

Lincslady... I have avg as well... It worked fine for a bit, but now it is a bit tempermental... It won't update when I tell it to, sometimes it won't open... I say it has a mind of its own... We are getting a new pc as well. (500 gig hard drive, 2 gig ram, dvd/r/rw, cd/r/rw all for $999.99!!!)

Congrats Linda.. At least now we wont lose you.. Glad you got all those goodies installed.. Before you go changing the mouse, I found that some times the mat itself makes a difference.. Just a thought anyways.

Now, why dont you move the old sound system from the other puter to the new one..?

I'm not up to date with thlatest on hardware.. still using my old microwave which I convereted into a pc.. lol.

                    Cheers luv.

lmao... Yes.. and I usually make microwave popcorn with my pc too..

Now.. since your mouse is optical, then the only bug these can have is a little calibration problem.. so, if you put the make and model here, I can go check the manufacturer's manual and come back to you with some instructions on training that mouse to go where you want it to be.. May be a small **** box and little water is all it needs.. lol

Ok.. Got onto Phillips and checked out this Optical SPM4000 Mouse.. Apparently, this mouse is smarter than I thought.. Nothing to it.. According to the manual, the problem could be due to the surface it's placed on.. This mouse recognizes transparent, glass, patterned and rough surfaces.. It's best used on a smooth plain non glass surface. That's what the manual says: "Avoid using on reflective, transparent, metalic or complex pattern surface.. So linda, if you are still using that smooth shiny $20,000 Marble Top desk.. You might need a $2 Mouse Mat.. lol
