For the past couple of weeks I've been looking into putting up some background music on my ballet school site but finding something suitable that doesn't fall foul of either performing rights or a visitor who doesn't want to wait forever for it to load is no small task.

I've put up a small edited classical piece that is available and I think fits the the 'tone' but I'd appreciate very much comments from anyone who has time to take a look. TIA.

It took 1 minute and 20 seconds on my machine on IE6. I have 2mb broadband (although its running at 1.7 at the moment)
The music still doesnt work in Firefox though.

Hi again all you kind people,

I've done what I think I should have done in the first place and saved it as an MP3.
I hesitate to ask, I know I'm being a nuisance, but would someone have a look to see if it's any better?

Amanda I was wondering why I wasn't getting any mail.
Ah well another problem obviously.

Andy do you think the MP3 may be the answer - maybe not or why hasn't somebody come up with this earlier?

I just tried it again and it started almost immediately but I have done it once and it will still be in my pc cached or something like that.
I use Alive WAV/MP3 converter to do my sound files.
http://www.alivemedia.net/ it is very good.

That seemed to speed things up considerably. What ever you did seemed to work. Now hopefully some one with dial-up will test it.

Mary: I went in on a different machine with IE6 and on both mine and the other machine, the music began almost immediately. Sounds great and looks great!! Congratulations and good luck!

when a surfer comes to your site it loads the contents Alphabetically ... thus if you have a large music file as set in the background it good to name that file zmusicfilename with the z in front of it your page will load quickly with the graphics and text and come down quick... as the music file is the last file to come down the surfer can look through your page instead of the page being blank which I know if I have to wait to long I just close the site because I'm an impatient websurfer

Hi Mary,

Its a lovely site, beautiful colour very calming and elegant and the music is most fitting, ..just lovely

Oh and i'm on dial up and the music just takes a few seconds ...well done

I've changed one or two things and would love to hear (see?) your comments.

Sadly I have so much work to catch up on that I must be strict with myself and not log in so often. However will I manage to get through the day without those hilarious jokes?

Looks great! Music faster and everything looks very nice.

One thing- in my browser (IE) on the contact page, the picture next to the harp appears to -ever so slightly- touch or over lap the
H in Hunter. Thats all.

Picture slightly hits the H also in firefox. also as i mentioned firefox does not play the music but my internet explorer does. i don't know why but it does it to me also. Perfect site.
